“I’d like to thank the staff and customers of Virgin Money Giving for choosing Teenage Cancer Trust as the 2018 London Marathon Official Charity. I can ensure them, those representing the charity, in whatever capacity, will maximise this wonderful opportunity.

Around 7 young people aged between 13 and 24 are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK. They need expert treatment and support from the moment they hear the word ‘cancer’ and Teenage Cancer Trust is the only charity dedicated to making this happen.

The charity relies solely on the generosity of public donations to create world-class cancer services for young people in the UK, providing life-changing care and support so young people don’t have to face cancer alone.

So, if having secured a 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon place, you have yet to choose a charity to support, please consider supporting and raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust, so it can continue its work and achieve its objective of supporting every young person between 13 & 24 diagnosed with cancer in the UK through their cancer journey.

Here are a few tips I’ll take into my preparations for 2018:

  • As I was told in late 2014 ‘you will only ever participate in your first London Marathon once’. So if you are participating for the first time, forget about achieving a personal best and just go out onto the streets of London to enjoy an amazing day.
  • Get your accommodation booked now.
  • Go and sort out your running shoes and socks at a reputable retailer and consider buying two pairs – you’ll need a second pair after pounding  the streets in training but make sure the second pair are well run in ahead of the big day.
  • Don’t beat yourself up if your training plan doesn’t quite go according to schedule.

Best wishes with your preparations for the 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon.
